Turkey 5th Most Popular Holiday Destination

A newly published report by flight comparison service Skyscanner, compiled from its 7 million monthly UK visitors, lists Turkey amongst the Top 5 most searched holiday destinations - from UK airports - for 2010.

The data was compiled from the last quarter of 2009 when the majority of holidays are being planned for 2010 and provides an interesting insight into where the British plan to holiday this year. It is hoped a good number of visitors will go onto purchase property in Turkey.

Bodrum (BJV) ranked 15th and Dalaman (DLM) 5th over increasingly less popular Spanish destinations such as; Palma, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Barcelona, Murcia, Ibiza, Fuerteventura and Madrid - a number of which plummeted down the rankings.

Thomas Cook, TUI and easyJet have already announced increases to their services to Bodrum and Dalaman for 2010 to cater for the growth in demand.

Favourite Italian destinations such as Rome, Venice and Milan also saw their rankings slip.

Bodrum and Dalaman polled higher positions than even the most traditional European holiday destinations such as Faro (Portugal), Geneva (Switzerland), Paris and Nice (France), Amsterdam (Holland), Dublin (Ireland), Prague (Czech Rep.), Berlin and Munich (Germany), Salzburg (Austria), Crete (Greece) and Sofia (Bulgaria).

A major contributory factor could well be the strength of the Euro against the pound where the British in particular, when contrasted against their European counterparts, enjoy a beneficial rate when exchanging their pounds for Turkish Liras – more than doubling their money.

Turkey significantly attracted more interest as a holiday destination than Cyprus, Egypt, Morocco, Dubai and Malta.

Further afield, again Bodrum and Dalaman attracted more interest than New York and Las Vegas (USA), Bangkok (Thailand) and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).

Orlando however, polled 4th position and is one the highest climbers compared to the same period last year, up 12 places. Travel Editor Sam Baldwin comments: “The rise in popularity of Orlando is primarily due to the new Harry Potter theme park opening in the spring. Other big movers include Johannesburg and Cape Town as the World Cup is just around the corner”. The top 3 positions remained unchanged.

Turkey emerged as a clearly favoured holiday destination for 2010 and is certainly continuing to build on its growing reputation as a cost effective alternative to traditional Spanish destinations.

Cumberland Properties can endorse these findings having already sold 2 properties at Woodland Regency in the first week of January 2010 and are currently experiencing a significant increase, over the same period last year, in enquiries for both property in Bodrum and rentals in Bodrum, having already secured a number of reservations for the ever popular Seaview Regency Prestige

Oh, and should you have the good fortune to be holidaying in Turkey during the world cup; fans of the beautiful game will be relieved to hear that their enthusiasm is shared by most Turks, so rest assured you won’t have to travel to far to find superb coverage of the event.

Cameron ‘anger’ at slow pace of Turkish EU negotiations

Filed under: Bodrum Property Developer, Turkey — Tags: , , — admin @ 10:13 am

David Cameron has promised to “fight” for Turkey’s membership of the European Union, saying he is “angry” at the slow pace of negotiations.

On his first visit as prime minister, he said the country could become a “great European power”, helping build links with the Middle East.

He compared hostility to the membership bid in some parts of the EU with the way the UK’s entry was once regarded.

Mr Cameron was expected to agree a new strategic partnership with Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan during his visit.

‘Frustrating progress’

In a speech at the Turkish parliament in Ankara, Mr Cameron said he wanted to “pave the road” for Turkey to join the EU, saying the country was “vital for our economy, vital for our security & vital for our diplomacy”.

A European Union without Turkey at its heart was “not stronger but weaker… not more secure but less… not richer but poorer”.

Mr Cameron added: “I’m here to make the case for Turkey’s membership of the EU. & to fight for it.”

At a joint press conference with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Mr Cameron suggested the UK would impose provisional restrictions - as with Bulgarians & Romanians after they joined - on the right of Turkish people to live & work in the UK after it joined the EU.

But the rapid rate of Turkey’s economic growth would make any restrictions unnecessary in decades to come, he added.

He said: “One of the effects here is that [as] economies grow & become more evolved, the pressure & flow [of people] between countries isn’t so great.”

Referring to former French President General Charles de Gaulle’s efforts to block British membership of the EU in the 1960s, Mr Cameron said in his speech: “We know what it’s like to be shut out of the club. But we also know that these things can change.

“When I think about what Turkey has done to defend Europe as a Nato ally, & what Turkey is doing today in Afghanistan, alongside our European allies, it makes me angry that your progress towards EU membership can be frustrated in the way it has been.

“My view is clear. I believe it is just wrong to say that Turkey can guard the camp but not be allowed to sit in the tent.

“So I will remain your strongest possible advocate for EU membership & greater influence at the top table of European diplomacy.”

Regional role

Mr Cameron said those who opposed EU membership were driven by protectionism, narrow nationalism or prejudice.

“Those who wilfully misunderstand Islam, they see no difference between real Islam & the distorted version of the extremists. They think the problem is Islam itself. And they think the values of Islam can just never be compatible with the values of other religions, societies or cultures.”

He said: “All of these arguments are just plain wrong. And as a new government in Britain, I want us to be at the forefront of an international effort to defeat them.”

While praising Turkey’s secular & democratic traditions, Mr Cameron stressed that Turkey must continue to push forward “aggressively” with economic & political reform to maintain momentum towards EU membership.

He said the country had a “unique influence” in helping to build a stable Afghanistan through political & economic co-operation & fostering understanding between Israel & the Arab world.

New Chapter Open In Turkey EU Accession

Turkey takes a step forward on its path towards the European Union with the opening of a new chapter of negotiations on the environment.

“The fact that it is a difficult chapter means that we are entering a more serious phase of negotiations,” said Carl Bildt, the Swedish foreign minister for the rotating EU presidency, stressing that the enlargement process continues.

“It is an important step in relations between the EU and Turkey”, added Ahmet Davutoglu, Turkey’s foreign minister, hoping that in the future the negotiations will have “a greater impact” on preparations for the country’s accession to the EU.

“To open this chapter of negotiations, 26 different institutions and governments have worked diligently in Turkey”, explained Egemen Bagis, the Turkish minister of EU affairs, stressing the great attentions of Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on environmental affairs.

Cumberland Properties enthusiastically welcomes this national focus having long been champions of environmental considerations when constructing property in Turkey.

Currently building is in full swing at Cumberland’s Woodland Regency project set in the heart of a beautiful, 5.4-acre, tranquil forest of pine and olive trees, abundant with wildlife, and conveniently located in the village of Konacık, much in demand by investors due to its close proximity to Bodrum’s elegant town centre and its ease of access to the peninsulas many other idyllic villages.

After constructing and selling property in Turkey for many years Cumberland Properties had already implemented measures to use during their building processes to become more environmentally friendly but great lengths are being taken to preserve the indigenous flora and fauna whilst works continue. Not only content with this unique approach to the construction of property in Bodrum, Cumberland Properties are also looking to enhance the natural environment.

Cumberland’s Landscape Architect Gözde Tavaslı’s careful selection and eye for detail extends beyond simply her choice of plants, cultivated at Cumberland Landscaping and Design, to compliment the natural landscapes, but also to areas such as the provision of nesting boxes in the woodland to encourage the already prolific diversity of birdlife to flourish further.

There can’t be many busy construction sites where sheep, geese and free-range chickens peacefully graze in the adjacent fields!

Currently at Cumberland Landscaping & Design stock exceeds 20,000 flowers, shrubs, trees and herbs all being grown simultaneously. Palm trees from seeds, basils, daises, cacti, roses and banana trees are the more recognisable names but the majority are local flowers and perennial plants that help Cumberland achieve a constant stream of blooms in their gardens.

Cumberland already had a fine reputation across the Bodrum Peninsular as a “green” developer in Turkey. But ever environmentally conscious and certainly not content to rest on their laurels (pardon the pun) they have dramatically expanded this side of their business.

With the acquisition of an additional site, just south of Bodrum Milas Airport – keep an eye out for it beneath the “Cumberland Properties” sign on the right hand side of the main road as you travel south toward Bodrum – they will be able to better serve the local community.

This expansion has been fuelled, in part, by an increase in demand from other local developers and wholesalers who clearly envy their green fingers!

Cumberland Landscaping & Design not only aim to expand their business to cater for this sector of the market but also to offer their services to the wider community by the provision of a retail outlet.

Gözde Tavaslı will also be extending her services and considerable expertise by offering her talents not only within Cumberland but also on a consultancy basis to other developers as well as members of the general public.

Turkey A Location That Is Much In Demand

Filed under: Bodrum Property Developer, Turkey — Tags: , — admin @ 9:31 am

Turkey remains in the top 5 holiday destinations globally with just under 30 million tourists flocking to its stunning beaches annually. Turkey’s superb climate which, boasts over 300 days of sunshine a year, together with its alluring quality of life, help to sustain this position.

Turkey itself is in the midst of a property boom. Turkey’s current accession talks for membership of the EU, with likely inclusion as a full member in the near future, are progressing at a meteoric pace and are adding to the burgeoning interest in the Turkish property market.
Turkish property still offers massive potential for returns on investment. Last year property prices rose by circa 50% with a proportionate increase in people looking to purchase homes in Turkey. This year has seen prices increase by a further 30%. This extra demand is set to push prices up significantly and further underpins the market.

Since its application for EU membership, Turkey has received a host of foreign investment that will contribute to fast improvements to its infrastructure in readiness for EU inclusion over the next ten years. Already improvements are in evidence, with the recent refurbishment of the main road between Milas-Bodrum Airport and Bodrum. Additionally, there has been further investment from both Europe and Russia in relation to the respective Nabucco and South Stream pipeline projects.
Corporate investors are creating new resorts, golf courses and other tourist facilities and these are clear indications of a growing tourist economy that will continue to boost capital growth for today’s property investments.

The most popular spots for tourism and property purchase are along the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts and over the past eighteen months, the number of Britons owning property in Turkey has increased by more than 200%. It is now possible for foreigners to obtain local mortgages, further encouraging this emerging market.

It’s not just property investors who are showing a strong interest in Turkish property at the current time. Due to the low cost of living and beautiful natural resources Turkey is also an appealing location for second homes and a popular retirement destination for many Europeans.
The most popular searches for Turkey property are for Bodrum property.

Bodrum Health Foundation, or BSV, was established in 1996 with 36 members & considered its first priority to provide care for disabled children. Purpose built, in 2002, Begonvil Education & Rehabilitation Centre was constructed on 10,000 square meters of land provided by Turgutreis Municipality.

Speaking at a dinner party organized to mark the 13th anniversary of the foundation’s establishment, foundation president Ahmet Biçer said over 140 disabled people have been educated with the financial support of 4 million liras. “Close your eyes for 30 seconds & imagine yourself or one of the people you know is disabled,” Biçer told an audience of 400 guests, including 50 overseas nationals living in Bodrum.

“The founders of this foundation set out with this philosophy & created a chance of high-standard education & rehabilitation for 140 disabled people. These people, who created this organization without expecting anything in return but the happiness of the children, are the real heroes of Bodrum.”

Biçer said the foundation hopes to complete a new workshop for the disabled next year with an estimated investment of 450,000 Turkish Liras.

According to the information on the foundation’s Web site, Begonvil Special Education & Rehabilitation Centre for Disabled Children provides trainable mentally impaired children, autistic children & those with physical disabilities in the 0-18 age group with one-on-one & group education. The centre has professional training rooms, a library, a lounge, a kitchen & a dining hall.

The interior of the centre has been designed to provide disabled individuals with safe & easy mobility. In the gardens, there is an agricultural rehabilitation area, a playground, swimming pool & Jacuzzi. Presently, 90 physically & mentally disabled individuals are provided with services at the rehabilitation centre.

One-on-one education is given in five main fields: physical development, self-care skills, mental development, emotional & social development, & language development.

Fields defined in accordance with the child’s needs are supported with group education. The children who have completed their basic development can start academic education, receive training for independent living, & attend vocational education workshops. During the workshops making galoshes, ceramics, accessories & souvenirs develops the children’s manual skills.

The aim of these endeavours is to support the disabled children’s personal & social life skills so as to increase their self-confidence & motivation & to enable them to become independent, self-contained individuals with an improved sense of self-worth.

Because education & rehabilitation cannot be solely indoor activities, picnics, excursions, trekking & activities in the sea are considered to be crucial endeavours that foster harmony between disabled individuals & society. Therefore, the rehabilitation centre organizes many outdoor activities that children can attend together with their parents.

Television & radio programs are prepared & panel discussions are held to inform the public & to raise awareness. The newspaper of the foundation, Gökkuşağı (The Rainbow) is published every two months & delivered to 3,000 locations in Istanbul & 2,500 in Bodrum.

Physiotherapy for children with mobility problems

Physiotherapists at the centre rehabilitate mobility problems of children who suffer from certain disabilities, Cerebral Palsy, motor mental retardation, & Down’s syndrome. In addition, in accordance with the needs of children with other disabilities, programs for individual, group or home exercise are offered.

The aim of the therapy programs is to minimize the mobility problems of the children & to help them gain maximum independence in daily life. Therapy sessions are held with the full support & cooperation of the families.

Education & rehabilitation of children with a diagnosis from a fully equipped state hospital & a medical report from the hospital board can register for the centre where they are given meticulous care by a team of specialists. The team includes physiotherapists, special education teachers, ceramics teachers, & child development & education teachers. Moreover, specialists in music & folk dance volunteer & also support the centre.

To spread the workload, the foundation & the rehabilitation centre depend on the help of volunteers. The social committee, which consists of volunteers from all over the Bodrum Peninsula, work all year round for the betterment of the foundation. The activities of the committee include organizing fairs & benefit dinners, working on projects with similar institutions, & preparing programs to raise public awareness.
